MIA - Up to 60 cases have been submitted to courts since the establishment of the Department for Combating Hate Speech

Since the establishment of the Department for Combating Hate Speech, up to 60 cases have been submitted to common courts, and 7 cases have been concluded with summary decisions. InterpressNews was informed about the above in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In particular, the department states that from June 1, 2026 to the present, the Department for Combating Hate Speech of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has submitted up to 60 cases to common courts. Of these, a court preparatory session has been scheduled for 30 cases. 7 cases have been concluded with summary decisions.

“The consideration of the first case submitted by the Department for Combating Hate Speech in the common courts was completed on June 11, 2026, by the Bolnisi District Court. However, the decision has not yet been announced. As for the first decision announced on the aforementioned cases, it was announced on June 12, 2026, by the Oni Magistrate Court. Accordingly, the information disseminated by the media outlets that the court considered the first case today and that it concerned the fact of a violation of law committed against Nino Tsilosani is not true.

The department’s goal is to ensure the monitoring and proactive detection of publicly disseminated statements that violate/insult human dignity, as well as statements containing hate speech, which contain the signs of a violation of law provided for by the Administrative Offenses Code of Georgia, and to apply appropriate sanctions to them in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of Georgia," the agency explains.

The MIA also states that the review of cases submitted to general courts by the Department for Combating Hate Speech continues on a daily basis.

"Accordingly, information about the ongoing legal proceedings and their results will be provided to the public in stages," the agency notes.
