Lawyer of one of the detainees in the “Georgian Railway” case by the State Security Service says: I am going to visit him in the detention facility now; it is unclear to us why he has been arrested

The lawyer of one of the individuals detained by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service in the “Georgian Railway” case, Diana Gvishiani, says she is unaware of the charges brought against her client.

According to Gvishiani, speaking to InterpressNews, formal charges will be presented to six detainees today.

“I am going to visit him in the detention facility now. The order of charges has not yet been handed over. At this stage, I cannot say anything. Of course, it is unclear to us what he has been arrested for,” Gvishiani said.

For context, the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service has brought criminal charges against the former General Director of Georgian Railway, Davit Peradze, and seven other individuals. Two of them - including Peradze - have been declared wanted, while the rest were detained in Tbilisi based on a court order.

The investigation is being conducted under multiple articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia, including large-scale fraud, money laundering, and document forgery, which carry penalties of 9 to 12 years of imprisonment.

The State Security Service Anti-Corruption Agency continues active investigative actions to identify other members of the organized group and take legal measures against them.

Davit Peradze served as General Director of Georgian Railway from November 22, 2017, to May 7, 2025.
