To tell you the truth, Mikheil Saakashvili's post was unexpected - it is extremely sad for me and I believe that it is precisely such impulsive and inconsistent decisions that have led us to where we are, - Tina Bokuchava, the chairwoman of the United National Movement, stated at the briefing.
"You remember, 6 days ago, President Saakashvili wrote a post on social media that he supported me as the chairwoman of the party to implement the changes that he considers necessary to strengthen the United National Movement. Moreover, I thanked him on yesterday's broadcast for this renewed mandate of trust. My 2-year term, for which the party congress elected me on July 8, 2024, expires in about a month, so I thanked him for the renewed mandate of trust, so that we could carry out reforms with common efforts and the right approach, with the aim of reforming the United National Movement with a vision.
To be honest, the post that I read just a few minutes ago, on the way to the briefing, was unexpected. It is extremely sad for me and I believe that it is precisely such impulsive and inconsistent decisions that have brought us to where we are," Bokuchava said.
According to Tina Bokuchava, the fight for the release of "political prisoners" and the victory of the country will continue.
"Of course, this does not mean that we will stop for a minute, that we will not fight for the health and life of Elene [Khoshtaria], for her release, for the freedom of President Saakashvili, for the release of all political prisoners from prison and for the victory of this country. I am deeply convinced of this like never before," Bokuchava added.
For information, the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, wrote on social media that his candidate for the chairmanship of the National Movement is Nanuka Zhorzholiani.
As Saakashvili notes, the terms of all officials in the National Movement expire in July. Saakashvili explained that it is necessary to hold the chairman's elections in a format "that excludes interference from the regime."
