Maka Bochorishvili - The European Parliament resolution contains a lot of lies and incorrect information - we perceive this as an attack on the Georgian state and society

The European Parliament resolution contains manipulative and incorrect notes that serve to exert political pressure against Georgia, - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili assessed the European Parliament resolution, including the provisions related to the visa-free travel mechanism.

According to her, the document contains manipulative and incorrect information that serves to divide Georgian society and damage the country's image.

According to the Minister, such approaches by the European Union institutions contribute to deepening polarization in society and create the basis for additional confrontation.

"In general, there are many unusual entries in this resolution, which makes it impossible to seriously evaluate the document, to seriously express any position. You know, who is the rapporteur of the report. This is not the only attempt to divide our society, we have seen many such attempts. On the one hand, they talk about polarization, on the other hand, they use all kinds of mechanisms and all kinds of means to make our society even more divided and opposed to each other. It is truly sad that this is happening precisely in the European Parliament and the European Union institutions," said Maka Bochorishvili.

According to the minister, it is especially worrying when one of the institutions of the European Union, the European Parliament, is used as an instrument of political pressure against Georgia.

"It is very unfortunate that one of the institutions of the European Union, in this case the European Parliament, is being used as a tool to exert or attempt to exert pressure on our society, to reinforce completely false narratives about Georgia. This resolution contains a lot of false and incorrect information, many provisions are highly manipulative. Accordingly, all this serves to tarnish Georgia's reputation. We perceive this as an attack on the Georgian state and Georgian society. It is truly unacceptable that this is being done by one of the institutions of the European Union," the Foreign Minister noted.

According to her, concrete steps have already been taken to suspend visa-free travel, the form and purpose of which are unusual for international practice and raise additional questions:

"The suspension of visa-free travel has already been implemented in a classified manner, such a mechanism has been activated unusually for holders of diplomatic passports, which is generally unthinkable in international relations, when diplomats are primarily those people who hold diplomatic passports, and who, on the contrary, enjoy certain privileges. In any case, such a decision is truly unusual," Bochorishvili noted.

According to the minister, the Georgian side continues its dialogue with the European Commission and is actively working on all issues, including the assessment of decisions that concern holders of diplomatic passports.

"You know that we have already held the first meeting with the European Commission, we had the opportunity to discuss the mechanism for suspending the visa regime and in general all the issues related to the suspension of the visa regime for holders of diplomatic passports in this case, and we will continue to work on these issues," Maka Bochorishvili said.

The Minister's comments were disseminated by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
