Shalva Papuashvili - In the case of Moldova, it is not about limiting sovereignty, but about abolishing the state - Moldova is looking for a side entrance to the EU, because, apparently, everyone understands that Brussels is taking the enlargement application back

We complained that, unfortunately, some in Brussels view European integration as a limitation of sovereignty, and it turns out that in the case of Moldova, it is not about limiting sovereignty, but about abolishing the state altogether - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated at the briefing.

According to Papuashvili, Moldova is "looking for a side entrance" to the EU by preparing to join Romania, which, according to him, means that Brussels is taking its enlargement application back.

“When comparing Georgia to Moldova, this is one of the main issues that emphasizes right from the start that it is impossible to compare the path of Georgia and Moldova to European integration when the Moldovan government does not consider the independence of its own country to be anything. What kind of country were they building for 35 years, what kind of statehood were they creating when the sovereignty of the state has no meaning, independence apparently has never existed for them.

That is why it is important that when comparing Georgia to Moldova on the path of European integration, it is impossible to compare, we have all been convinced that the Moldovan government does not consider the independence of its own country to be a value. We are in a different situation. We have a thousand-year state history and no Georgian would even think of such an attitude - abolishing their own state for some European idea.

This shows one more thing about what is happening on the path of EU enlargement. It shows that Moldova, apparently, does not hope that there are serious intentions regarding the enlargement of the European Union. Moldova, which we see being demonstratively declared to be almost a model student in the process of European integration. This talk that they can enter the European Union as a result of the abolition of the state and its incorporation into Romania, means that Moldova is looking for a side entrance to the European Union, because, apparently, what is not said outside, everyone understands inside, that the application for EU enlargement is being taken back by Brussels," Papuashvili said.
