Irakli Kobakhidze: People may criticize you when you play football and say, "His passing wasn't perfect" - But if the scoreboard shows 7-1, that criticism carries little weight; Georgia's economy grew by 7.5% last year

"People may criticize you for many things when you're playing football - they may say, 'His passing was flawed,' and so on. But if the scoreboard reads 7-1, that criticism carries little weight," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during his annual address to Parliament.

According to Kobakhidze, Georgia's economy surpassed GEL 100 billion for the first time in history, reaching GEL 104.6 billion.

"Numbers are what our opponents dislike the most, because numbers speak for themselves. They do not require any special analysis. People may criticize you for many things when you're playing football - they may say, 'His passing was flawed,' and so on. But if the scoreboard reads 7-1, that criticism carries little weight.

I can tell you what the final score was for our country last year - not for us as a government or as the ruling authorities, but for the country itself. What was the country's progress over the past year, during the reporting period?

In 2025, Georgia's economy grew by 7.5%. Over the course of the year, our economy expanded by $3.9 billion, which is an impressive result.

For the first time in history, Georgia's economy exceeded GEL 100 billion, reaching GEL 104.6 billion. Let me remind you that when Georgian Dream came to power in 2012, the economy was worth less than GEL 28 billion, and just five years ago, in 2020, it was still below GEL 50 billion. This means that over the past five years, our economy has doubled in lari terms and grown even more in U.S. dollar terms, thanks to the successful stabilization and strengthening of the national currency.

As a result, we have recorded impressive growth both over the past five years and during the past year. In dollar terms, Georgia's economy increased from $16 billion in 2020 to $38.1 billion in 2025, which means the growth is even more impressive when measured in U.S. dollars," Kobakhidze said.

He added that the average economic growth over the past five years was 9.3%.

"If we look at the figures for January-April, the economy has already grown by 8.2% this year. This shows that the high rate of economic growth has been maintained in the current year as well, and preserving this strong growth remains one of our government's top priorities," Kobakhidze stated.
