Irakli Kobakhidze: In 2012 our population paid 1.764 billion GEL in income tax, in 2020 it was 3.326 billion GEL, and last year it reached 8.261 billion GEL - this means economic growth is directly reflected in the population

“In 2012 our population paid 1 billion 764 million GEL in income tax. In 2020 this figure became 3 billion 326 million GEL, and last year it was 8 billion 261 million GEL,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in Parliament while presenting the annual report on the government program.

According to the Prime Minister, this shows that the country’s economic growth is directly reflected in the population.

“We also have the International Monetary Fund’s medium-term forecast, according to which in 2026–2031 Georgia will have the highest growth rate both in the region and across Europe. This forecast is based on concrete indicators and trends observed in our country over the past five years.

A frequent question is how rapidly growing economic development affects the population. One of the best indicators is income tax payments. Income tax is paid by about one million of our citizens - almost all employed individuals.

In 2012 our population paid 1 billion 764 million GEL in income tax. In 2020 this figure became 3 billion 326 million GEL, and last year it reached 8 billion 261 million GEL. This means that after taxation, the total income of our population exceeds 33 billion GEL. In 2020 the same figure was 13.3 billion GEL, and in 2012 it was 7.1 billion GEL. This means that the economic growth of the country is directly reflected in the population,” Kobakhidze said.
