We have a very principled approach to the issue of occupation, and, in general, a government's policy should be judged by its results. If we compare it with the previous government, we can clearly see what the results were then and what they are now, including the results of policy toward Russia and the consequences of an impragmatic approach, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during his annual address to Parliament.
According to the Prime Minister, those results included Russia's military intervention in Georgia and the expansion of its territorial presence in the country.
"Regarding my visits to the occupation line, journalists have asked me this question several times recently, and I confirmed to them that during this period I visited the occupation line on numerous occasions without cameras. As for the so-called annexation of South Ossetia, for some reason you speak about this issue with great enthusiasm. I can explain what our approach and policy are.
We have a very principled approach to the issue of occupation, and, in general, a government's policy is measured by its results. Compared with the previous government, we can clearly see what the results were then and what they are now, including the results of policy toward Russia and the consequences of an impragmatic policy. The results were Russia's intervention in Georgia, the expansion of its territorial presence in our country, and, alongside that, its economic intervention. These are measurable outcomes.
Under our government, the results have been completely different. There has been no expansion of territorial presence whatsoever. The only serious case in this regard was the incident in Chorchana, and everyone knows very well whose 'achievement' that was. In every other case, we firmly defended our interests to the very end, and the result is that Georgia's national interests have been fully protected.
I don't even think this requires any assessment. They claim that borderization was stopped in Chorchana. I honestly don't know what comment to make about that - it deserves none. It is the only case where the occupying force advanced several kilometers beyond the old so-called border into our territory, and yet this is being described as 'stopping borderization.' It is truly a disgrace that one particular individual will never be able to erase from their biography. It is a genuine stain, although that person has accumulated so many stains that even Chorchana hardly stands out among them - I can say that with confidence.
As for Syria and Venezuela, we did take specific measures. However, it is not appropriate to discuss this publicly, especially in your presence. That is all I can say," the Prime Minister stated.
