“There are problems in the alliance and a non-working environment,” said one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Lasha Pharulava, in response to a question about the confrontation within the ‘opposition alliance.’
According to Pharulava, there are people in the ‘opposition alliance’ who have created a framework through ‘anti-Misha’ propaganda, thereby harming the entire process.
“The ‘opposition alliance’ was together and without uniformity. We have our own political line. We believe that in order to free political prisoners, we need to be more active, including on the streets. As for new elections, they are only possible through pressure and external sanctions. We remain loyal to that paradigm. However, there is a non-working environment, which stems from the dishonest behavior of certain individuals and certain political actors. Therefore, of course, we continue our protest and struggle in this fight. Regarding the non-working environment in the alliance, the political party will clearly make a decision on how it will continue relations with those political actors who are not only honest, but also sincere and who continue to fight alongside us.
The United National Movement has been in this cycle of struggle for 14 years. We, of course, continue to fight to free political prisoners and to inflict significant losses on the Ivanishvili regime both inside the country and on the international stage, and we are working on this. As for the alliance and the actors within it who demonstrate dishonesty, precisely because of this modus, there are problems and a non-working environment. Naturally, the political party will decide how it will continue relations with those political actors with whom we have gone through many battles and confrontations together.
Those specific individuals who are distinguished by ‘anti-Misha’ propaganda and who create a framework that is damaging not only to the alliance but also to the struggle for the release of political prisoners and the achievement of new elections are dishonest.
When certain actors and individuals damage the common framework, we will not only refuse to participate in their ‘anti-Misha’ campaign, but we will continue the struggle without these people,” Pharulava said.
The opposition politician also spoke about the confrontation that took place in parliament and noted that what happened in the legislative body is disgraceful behavior and has nothing in common with tradition or what is Georgian.
“We saw hypocrisy from the Georgian Dream side, which supposedly fights hate at the legislative level, while in reality, if anyone incites hatred, revenge, political vendetta, and cultivates division within the nation, it is Georgian Dream. A clear example of this was what we saw in the illegitimate parliament. We have always said that it is not possible to be in parliament together with a political force that has no legitimacy either inside or outside the country, because we have seen the level of greed that certain individuals possess. How can someone be a three-time Olympic champion and, because of greed, do what they are doing? How is it possible to gang up and attack one person? This is neither Georgian nor dignified behavior, and it does not fit our traditions. It is unfortunate that this is being encouraged by people who, through their sporting achievements, are considered successful in our eyes,” Lasha Pharulava said.
