Today, hatred is associated with pro-Europeanism in the eyes of Georgians - those who allege to be pro-European are the sources of hatred, the main spreaders of obscenity, - the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, stated while speaking at the Department for Combating Hate Speech.
According to him, the European Union should also be a supporter of this initiative, if it does not want to be associated with obscenity, swearing and hate speech.
“The results show us that the hatred imposed from outside will decrease in Georgia. This is important, among other things, for political debates. When pro-European forces turn to swearing, of course, any open discussion is suppressed there. Therefore, this is an important issue for our political landscape and security, so that there is no incitement to escalation, to escalation of relations through the use of hate speech.
The second thing this will bring is that the damaged reputation of the European Union can be repaired a little. Today, hatred is associated with pro-Europeanism in the eyes of Georgians. We see that those who allege to be pro-European are the sources of hatred, the main spreaders of obscenity on social media and not only. What is damaged by this is the reputation of the European Union itself. So, if the European Union does not want to be associated again with obscenity, swearing and hate speech, I think the European Union should also be a supporter0 of this initiative, which will ultimately force the so-called pro-European forces to return to polite, non-obscene rhetoric and thus make us understand what they want. We have heard that they are well versed in swearing, but if they have any arguments and something to say behind the swearing, we will see," Papuashvili noted.
