Shalva Papuashvili: Insults, swearing, vulgarity, and verbal abuse are what hinder healthy public and political discussion - it is important to remove the externally built barrier and return to a culture of discussion

Insults, swearing, vulgarity, verbal attacks, and humiliation are what hinder healthy public and political discussion. It is important for Georgian society to remove the externally built barrier and return to the culture of discussion that is characteristic of Georgian society, - stated Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, the main task of the government is to return society and political life to Georgian political culture and to reduce the hatred imposed from outside.

“Our main task is for society and our political life to return to Georgian political culture and for the hatred imposed from outside to be reduced. The goal is for society to have the opportunity to participate in healthy public and political discussion. Insults, swearing, vulgarity, verbal attacks, and humiliation are what hinder healthy public and political discussion and create a barrier to such reasoning. Therefore, it is important for Georgian society to remove this externally built barrier and return to the culture of discussion that is characteristic of Georgian society.

We have seen who opposes this path - first and foremost, these are foreign-funded ‘NGOs’ and foreign political agents in Georgia, who demonstratively oppose the idea that swearing and vulgarity should not be part of public discussion. They threaten lawsuits and so on, which once again highlights who brought this vulgar, insult-filled political discussion to Georgia. These are entirely externally imposed and funded approaches that we must get rid of,” Papuashvili stated.
