As a result of one week of intensive investigative actions, a specific person has been detained in connection with Giga Avaliani’s case - the person who was talked about in recent days, - stated State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Bodies Mamuka Mdinaradze.
According to Mdinaradze, investigative actions in this case are constantly ongoing.
“The victim, his family members, especially their lawyers, are constantly kept informed about the investigative actions being conducted and know what results they may lead to.
Suspicion arises regarding a specific person in the case - whether he knew about the specific crime, concealed it, facilitated it, or helped. The same can be said about the information spread in recent days - there was talk about one person, and everyone knew that intensive investigative actions were underway. There was a high level of information on this background, even though neither the Prosecutor’s Office nor the Ministry of Internal Affairs could comment on it due to the interests of the investigation. As far as I know at this moment, the person who was talked about in recent days may already be detained.
We treat every word with absolute understanding. The victim has the greatest right to speak, but at the same time, I ask everyone, including the victims - not only the victim in this case - when we are informed that intensive investigative actions are underway, these actions have their own logic, and deviating from this logic may also create problems from the point of view of gathering evidence.
Today, as far as I know, as a result of this one week of intensive investigative actions, a specific person has already been detained, but this request and warning may be useful in other cases as well. Therefore, my request is not to get ahead of events. Let us allow the investigative bodies to bring these actions to their logical conclusion, whatever the result of these actions may be - the charging of a person. This decision should not be made on an emotional background,” Mamuka Mdinaradze stated.
