“As a result of our work, ALDE — the second-largest family — has clearly formulated a position that it is against suspending visa-free travel for Georgian citizens,” said Giorgi Vashadze, Chairman of “Strategy Builder,” regarding the resolution that ALDE plans to adopt concerning Georgia.
According to him, at the congress taking place in Vienna, discussions are focused on what effective steps Europe can take to help Georgia emerge from the current situation.
“Last year, instead of me and Zura [Japaridze] being here, for example, our audio message was sent from prison. Today, Elene Khoshtaria, who is also the chairperson of a party in the ALDE family, is in prison and has serious health problems. Paata Manjgaladze, our party’s Secretary General, is in prison — everyone knows this. The main thing being discussed here is what effective steps Europe can take so that Georgia can overcome this misfortune. The resolution includes a very important message that ALDE opposes the suspension of visa-free travel for all Georgian citizens, and if any steps are to be taken, they should be only and exclusively targeted measures. I emphasize once again: As a result of our work, ALDE — the second-largest family — has clearly formulated a position that it is against suspending visa-free travel for Georgian citizens,” Vashadze stated in an interview with TV Pirveli.
