The “Reformers’ Council” was created independently of the party — Mikheil Saakashvili made the decision to tell anyone in the struggle that this is the weapon of my struggle: let us implement reforms in this party, create it as you see it, and then use this party in the struggle as one of the strong weapons. Mikheil Saakashvili is openly a rank-and-file member of the “Reformers’ Council.” As he himself says, he does not like this “leadership,” but he is the main reformer, — this is how journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani explains the statement of the third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, in which he offers the “National Movement” the idea of creating a “Reformers’ Council.”
As Nanuka Zhorzholiani noted, the process of creating the “Reformers’ Council” was a working process that was discussed in a closed format. According to her, creating reforms is Mikheil Saakashvili’s exclusive talent, and she herself is proud to participate in these processes.
“The ‘Reformers’ Council’ was created independently of the party for several reasons. We want it to be a business coalition. There are people who can and want to participate in this process, but do not want party affiliation. First of all, in this country, whoever expresses a different opinion is called ‘everyone is a Natsi,’ but the second issue is when affiliation with a political party happens so directly, which many may not want. Therefore, we removed this problem for people and told them that any of you, including those people who are not voters of the ‘Five’ at all, can participate in this process because we want — we do not want, political processes will still go in such a way that the party as a weapon will be needed by everyone who is in this struggle. Accordingly, I think that the ‘National Movement’ now is the strongest instrument among opposition parties and Mikheil Saakashvili made the decision to tell anyone in the struggle: this is the weapon of my struggle, I am giving it to you, work with me to strengthen this weapon of struggle, implement reforms in this party according to your views, create it as attractive and more appealing as you see it, and then use this party in the struggle as one of the strong weapons,” Nanuka Zhorzholiani stated.
According to her explanation, the “Reformers’ Council” is independent, although party people also participate in the process — both members and not only members, including people who held high positions in the past. According to Nanuka Zhorzholiani, the process should be very open.
“This is a structure independent of the ‘National Movement,’ which will have the opposite influence. And it will be independent of the UNM for the reasons I listed, because making a business coalition means that a person who does not want to be a member of the UNM may want to record his opinion there. Therefore, we tell everyone: come, let’s work, let’s work together on this process. Then, this will give recommendations to the UNM. Among them there will be members of the ‘National Movement’ party and any person who has an idea and desire and could not implement it before. This will create a format of proposals and advice; the party will take it into account or not. This is the main principle on which the cooperation format is built,” Nanuka Zhorzholiani stated.
