It is regrettable when the EU's top diplomat openly declares that she does not intend to cooperate with the Georgian government, which was elected based on the democratic will of the Georgian people, while talking about supporting the same people, - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili, said when responding to the statement of the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas.

According to her, Georgia cannot remain silent when the democratic choice of the Georgian people is ignored.

“It is regrettable when the EU’s top diplomat openly declares that she does not intend to cooperate with the Georgian government, which was elected on the basis of the democratic will of the Georgian people, while she speaks about supporting the same people.

The basis of a true partnership is dialogue, not distancing from relations. Georgia remains committed to cooperation with the EU based on respect and mutual understanding, in the interests of our citizens and for our common European future.

However, we cannot remain silent when the democratic choice of the Georgian people is ignored. Democracy means respecting the decision of the voters – not only when it is politically convenient,” said Maka Bochorishvili.

For information, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, stated that “we have no connections with the Georgian government and we do not want to support it - we want to support the Georgian people.”

According to her, the EU discussed how to act so that the Georgian people do not lose hope in Europe. In addition, as she noted, various countries located around the Black Sea play an important role in the implementation of the Black Sea Strategy, while they are currently struggling with Georgia.
