The Prosecutor General's Office also states that the negotiations on the plea agreement began at the request of Matthew Roy Desmond and his lawyer, and the amount of the fine was also offered to the agency by them during the negotiations.

According to official information, in Matthew Roy Desmond's hand luggage, customs officers found 112 pills containing 0.0224 grams of buprenorphine (Subotex) and 50 pills containing 0.75 grams of codeine, as well as 39 capsules containing 5.8484 grams of the psychotropic substance pregabalin.
