A plea agreement has been reached with British citizen Matthew Roy Desmond, who was accused of bringing large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances into Georgia.
Judge Nino Galustashvili found the British citizen guilty and ordered him to pay a GEL 100,000 fine. He was also sentenced to deportation from Georgia and banned from entering the country for 20 years.
After being released from the courtroom, Desmond surrendered to the Immigration Service in the same courtroom.
According to official information, customs officers found 112 tablets containing 0.0224 grams of buprenorphine (Subutex), 50 tablets containing 0.75 grams of codeine, and 39 capsules containing 5.8484 grams of the psychotropic substance pregabalin in Matthew Roy Desmond’s hand luggage.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, at the time of his arrest, the British citizen did not present any medical documentation confirming that the large quantities of the three different narcotic and psychotropic substances had been prescribed to him by a doctor.
