Shalva Papuashvili on Nika Gvaramia’s statement: This is self-exposure as to why they wanted to drag Georgia into the war - they were seeking financial gain from it; what Ukraine is receiving today is not a gift, but a loan that will become a heavy burden on the Ukrainian people

“First and foremost, this is self-exposure as to why they wanted to drag Georgia into the war - they were seeking financial gain from it. In general, the fact that someone talks about money potentially being a counterbalance to the destruction of cities and the deaths of people already demonstrates the level of moral degradation to which they have sunk,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told journalists, commenting on opposition politician Nika Gvaramia’s statement that “once Ukraine wins the war soon, trillions will be spent on rebuilding Ukraine over the course of a decade, and Georgia will not be allowed anywhere near those trillions.”

According to Papuashvili, all of this is in the form of loans that will become a heavy burden on the Ukrainian people, and any further financial assistance will also be provided as loans, as no one is supporting anyone unconditionally.

“These are the people who, after the 2008 war, were exploiting funds received in precisely this way, and apparently they generally have this kind of parasitic approach toward the interests of their own country.

“As for the funds, even then, by the way, whatever money was provided was mainly in the form of loans. How it was spent or wasted is another question. So, they should not boast too much about these funds. Ukraine is also being assisted with loans today. You know that nothing being given to Ukraine today is a gift. All of it is loans that will become a heavy burden on the Ukrainian people, and if any further money is provided in the future, that too will be a loan. No one is supporting anyone here selflessly.

“Selflessness would mean going and fighting alongside Ukrainians. It would mean defending Europe’s borders at the cost of their own lives. As for the money, all of it is loans that will become a heavy burden on Ukraine, in addition to the destruction and war Ukraine is suffering from - the war into which these domestic political groups wanted to drag Georgia. In addition to the destruction, they wanted to burden Georgia with another heavy burden in the form of various loans, from which they wanted to profit.

“Once again, this shows that their message is: bring us to power and we will drag our country into war; then there will be a common pool of money that they will divide among themselves for their own benefit. Ultimately, just as after 2008, whatever funds entered Georgia became a burden in the form of loans, interest and payments that the Georgian people later had to bear, they wanted to put our country in precisely such a binding situation.

“Once again, war means destruction, while the promised funds mean putting the country in a binding financial situation - a country that would be both devastated and financially dependent on another country under onerous conditions,” Shalva Papuashvili said.
