I would like to inform the population of Tbilisi - we are starting to fulfill one of our important pre-election promises, this is the project of the complete rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue, which has been delayed for certain reasons, - the Mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, announced at the session of the Tbilisi Municipality Government.

According to Kaladze, the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue will begin on July 23, at 00:00. Within the framework of the mentioned project, the rehabilitation of the territory from Tamar Chovelidze Street to Freedom Square is planned.

As the mayor of the capital noted, due to the rehabilitation, the movement of all types of vehicles on Rustaveli Avenue and part of Kostava Street will be restricted. According to him, the rehabilitation works will be completed by the end of November.

“You know that tenders were announced several times, but companies did not participate and the tender failed several times, but we already have a winning company that will start the work. Rustaveli Avenue is the visiting card of our capital, both visually and historically, which has seen many joys, victories, pains and sorrows, and it must be neat and modern so that guests and local residents who come to our country can feel proud.

The main avenue of the capital, which is one of the most important and busiest, will be fully rehabilitated and transformed into a modern, safe and comfortable space.

The work will begin on July 23. We will start at 00:00 at night, from which time all types of vehicle traffic will be completely restricted on Rustaveli Avenue and part of Merab Kostava Street.

The rehabilitation area includes the area from Tamar Chovelidze Street to Freedom Square. The area before the square, a total of 2 kilometers of roadway.

The first stage of the project will involve the renovation of underground communications. The central water supply, sewage, drainage and gas supply systems will be replaced, as well as overhead wires will be placed in underground cable channels, and underground waste collection bins will be installed.

In addition, modern road infrastructure will be arranged, the roadway and sidewalk will be renovated, asphalt will be laid, the outdoor lighting network will be completely replaced, and new lighting poles with their LED systems will be installed.

An important part of the project also includes a landscaping component. Existing green spaces will be renovated, new trees and plants will be planted, making Rustaveli Avenue an even more attractive and ecologically improved environment.

Special attention will be paid to pedestrian safety and comfort. Above-ground pedestrian crossings will be arranged, road signs will be installed, horizontal markings will be drawn, and the avenue infrastructure will be fully adapted for people with disabilities.

The works, which will be carried out by the Tbilisi City Hall Infrastructure Development City Service, should be completed by the end of November. Our relevant services will supervise the implementation of the project during the day and night, so that we can complete the work on time,” Kaladze said.
