Why has this country become a country of tragedy, death, injustice, hatred and cruelty? What happened to us and what was done to us? - The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, publishes a post on social networks, responding to the yesterday’s murder in Tbilisi.
In her post, Zurabishvili also responds to the arrest of journalist Vakho Sanaia and the violence against comedian Onise Okriashvili, writing that the target of all these facts is humor.
"I can't even write about the tragedy that happened yesterday, it's so horrific and absurd to take this young life with a single shot. Words fail, and instead of words, anger seizes you. Why? Why has this country become a country of tragedy, death, injustice, hatred, and cruelty? What happened to us and what was done to us?
And if we think about the completely different events of yesterday, they have one thing in common. In all three cases, the target is humor:
The children were laughing in the car! And they were killed for that!
A journalist indirectly mocks the repressive agency and its prohibitions with indirect humor. How dares he? And he gets arrested!
A stand-up comedian mocks everyone and everything, because irony is part of philosophy, a way to see and understand the world from a different perspective. And four men attack him!
That is, what made society and individuals survive the hardest days during the Soviet regime, what is an integral part of our character, must be eradicated!!!
The dream of the Russian! - writes Salome Zurabishvili.
