The State Security Service of Georgia has arrested a person who, using the names of Gela Geladze and Tsotne Ivanishvili, took 11,300 GEL from the families of two defendants in a penitentiary institution in exchange for the promise of their release.

As a result of operational-search and investigative actions, officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia have arrested one person as a defendant on the fact of large-scale fraud.

According to the agency, the investigation revealed that a former employee of one of the law enforcement agencies, using the name of Geka Geladze, the head of the State Security Service, and Tsotne Ivanishvili, the son of the honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream, fraudulently took a total of 11,300 GEL from the family members of two defendants in a penitentiary institution in one of the criminal cases in exchange for their release from the prison and the promise of a plea bargain.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 180, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for a sentence of 6 to 9 years of imprisonment.
