Irakli Kobakhidze - We especially appreciate that China has consistently considered Georgia an equal and respected partner, at a time when international relations are often characterized by double standards

Our common aspirations have created a solid foundation for the further development of Georgian-Chinese relations, and over the past few years our partnership has moved to a new stage, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in his speech at the event marking the end of the diplomatic mission of the Chinese Ambassador.

As Irakli Kobakhidze noted, after the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2023, cooperation between Georgia and China has further deepened in the areas of political, economic and people-to-people relations.

"This year, we have elevated our relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which has created new opportunities for further expansion of political and economic cooperation. The new stage in our relations has also been reflected in economic cooperation. Trade between the two countries has been growing steadily in recent years. China is Georgia's third largest trading partner and the second most important market for Georgian domestic exports. Visa-free travel has significantly contributed to the increase in the number of visitors. This growing interest is accompanied by increased air traffic - today three Chinese airlines operate regular flights to Georgia, which creates new opportunities for tourism, business and investment," the Prime Minister said.

According to him, the launch of direct flights between Tbilisi and Shanghai has further strengthened connectivity, brought the countries closer together and made travel more affordable.

"These tangible results demonstrate that our partnership brings real benefits to both sides. We particularly appreciate that China has consistently treated Georgia as an equal and respected partner. At a time when international relations are often characterized by double standards, such an approach is particularly commendable. The essence of diplomacy is to build trust, open channels for dialogue, find common interests, and build bridges that enable our peoples to cooperate with each other. In this context, I would like to express my special gratitude to Ambassador Zhou Qian. Your personal efforts and support have played a significant role in the substantial deepening of Georgia-China relations in recent years. I wish you success in your future endeavors and I hope that Georgia will always remain a country that you will remember with fondness," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
