“Transparency International - Georgia” has sent a complaint to Strasbourg in the case of journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani.

As noted in the information released by the organization, the case concerns Zhorzholiani’s 3-day administrative detention.

“On June 26, ‘Transparency International - Georgia’ sent another complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The organization will defend the violated rights of journalist and politician Nanuka Zhorzholiani at the Strasbourg Court.

The court controlled by Ivanishvili’s obedient and corrupt clan of judges recognized Nanuka Zhorzholiani as an administrative offender and sentenced her to 3 days of administrative detention. This decision is related to her participation in a peaceful protest rally held on the sidewalk in front of the Parliament building.

We believe that the court’s rulings are clearly in contradiction with the freedoms of assembly and expression, the inviolability of private life, and the right to a fair trial guaranteed by the Constitution of Georgia and the European Convention on Human Rights. They are also in contradiction with the facts captured in the video recordings made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ own cameras, because these recordings clearly show that the protesters gathered on the sidewalk in front of the Parliament, including Nanuka Zhorzholiani, were not obstructing anyone’s movement.

Nanuka Zhorzholiani’s complaint is already the 12th complaint that our organization has sent to the Strasbourg Court in the past year alone.

We will continue to defend citizens’ violated rights in the international justice body, because seeking justice in the national courts has become impossible under Ivanishvili’s regime,” - the statement says.
