According to the doctors of the leader of the party “Droa,” Elene Khoshtaria, who is in detention, Elene Khoshtaria has been diagnosed with inflammatory spondyloarthritis, an inflammatory disease of the spine in which not only the spine but also the peripheral joints are affected.

As doctors Maka Ioseliani and Ana Kavtaradze note, Elene Khoshtaria will start receiving the therapeutic medication from tomorrow.

“Elene Khoshtaria underwent numerous radiological as well as laboratory examinations, including some that were sent abroad. Also, numerous consultations were conducted both in Georgia and with doctors outside its borders.

During this period, pain relief and symptomatic management were achieved; finally, we colleagues agreed on the diagnosis about which we had suspicions while Elene was in prison, and subsequent treatment was planned.

Regarding the diagnosis and treatment, yes, we confirmed the diagnosis about which there was suspicion; this is inflammatory spondyloarthritis. On the basis of these very many examinations we ruled out the presence of an active infection at present. Through the examinations we exhausted all possible risk possibilities and reduced the risks to a minimum. Now, after verification of the diagnosis, which is inflammatory spondylitis, that is, an inflammatory disease of the spine in which not only the spine but also the peripheral joints are affected. In accordance with the international recommendation for this disease, a biological disease-modifying medication was to be started; we selected one of these medications which will be the most possibly safe. We will start this medication tomorrow,” the doctors note.
