Lawyer: Whether a plea agreement will be concluded with Juansher Burchuladze has not yet been decided

Whether a plea agreement will be concluded with Juansher Burchuladze has not yet been decided, - this was stated to “Interpressnews” by the lawyer of the former Minister of Defence, Juansher Burchuladze, Mariam Shatirishvili.

The lawyer answered the question regarding the statement of the General Prosecutor’s Office, according to which the bringing of a new charge against the country’s former Prime Minister, Irakli Gharibashvili, was decided after information on the fact of Gharibashvili taking a large amount of a bribe was provided to the investigation by the former high-ranking official of the Ministry of Defence, Vasil Mkheidze, just as Juansher Burchuladze himself also cooperated with the investigation.

“As for the plea agreement, there was talk about this at first instance; simply the conditions have not been agreed and a decision has not been taken either,” Mariam Shatirishvili stated.

For information, a new charge has been brought against the former Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, who is in detention. The corresponding statement was made at a briefing held at the General Prosecutor’s Office. As Deputy General Prosecutor Amiran Guluashvili stated, the case concerns a corruption crime, specifically the taking of a particularly large amount of money.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, in connection with the fact of the former Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, taking a large amount of a bribe, information was provided to the investigative body by the relative of the former Minister of Defence, Juansher Burchuladze - Vasil Mkheidze. The agency also reports that Juansher Burchuladze himself cooperated with the investigation. The case concerns several secret procurements conducted during Irakli Gharibashvili’s premiership for the purchase of medical inventory and equipment needed by the Ministry of Defence.
