Parliament’s autumn session will open next week. Under the Rules of Procedure, the autumn session must open on the first Tuesday of September. The first Tuesday of September is September 1, when the first plenary sitting of the autumn session will be held. The Georgian national anthem will be performed at the opening of the session.

During the autumn session, Parliament is expected to be presented with amendments to the Law on the Structure, Powers and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia. The draft law concerns another planned structural change within the government. At the government’s initiative, the Ministry of Regional Development will be abolished, along with the newly created position of State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies. At the same time, a new position of State Minister for Regional Policy will be created, which, by decision of the Prime Minister, will be held by Mamuka Mdinaradze.

In addition, the Georgian Dream parliamentary majority plans to introduce new legal regulations aimed at protecting the church, sacred sites, historical heroes, and national values from insult. It has been announced that the relevant draft law will be initiated during the autumn session.

Before the first plenary sitting of the autumn session, a Bureau meeting will be held, where the agenda for the sitting will be determined.
