Dimitri Samkharadze on Irakli Garibashvili: This is yet another lesson in how painfully and, at the same time, tragically a person ends their career when they betray our ideals and choose personal material well-being over their homeland

“This is yet another lesson in how painfully and, at the same time, tragically a person ends their career when they betray our ideals and choose personal material well-being over their homeland, principles, and team unity,” Georgian Dream MP Dimitri Samkharadze said in response to a letter sent from prison by former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

As Dimitri Samkharadze wrote on social media, “Garibashvili has sunk to the level of the toilet-paper publication Asaval-Dasavali, a lavatory financed by him with money he himself illegally obtained.”

“After former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, following his own admission of a corruption-related crime, launched an insulting and dirty campaign from prison against Georgian Dream and the party’s founder, Bidzina Ivanishvili, I, as the party’s regional secretary, had refrained from making my public position known until now.

I was interested and waited to see what path the self-confessed criminal would take and how far a person would descend who, unfortunately, was once the leader of our team and who, also unfortunately, first got his hands dirty with corruption, then admitted to the crime and agreed to serve his sentence.

Unfortunately, Garibashvili has sunk to the level of the toilet-paper publication Asaval-Dasavali, a lavatory financed by him with money he himself illegally obtained. Clearly, I have no intention of substantively discussing the content of this person’s ravings, because not a single one of his words is worthy of rational consideration. What is happening to him is his personal, political, and human tragedy.

I simply want to tell the large family of our political team: this is yet another lesson in how painfully and, at the same time, tragically a person ends their career when they betray our ideals and choose personal material well-being over their homeland, principles, and team unity.

And finally, I address the loyal soldiers of Georgian Dream - the genuine ones: our uncompromising struggle to reclaim the homeland, remove agents, and liberate the country began in 2011 under the leadership of a statesman. Since then, each and every day has been a process of preserving the people’s great victory and safeguarding this precious achievement. The numerous betrayals we have witnessed along this difficult path are counterbalanced by the unity that we, the true soldiers of Georgian Dream, demonstrate to one another, and through this steadfast unity we strengthen our homeland,” Dimitri Samkharadze wrote on social media.
