“He explained very well in his statement what happened and how. At this stage, I cannot tell you anything further. We talked about many things, but I cannot provide any additional information,” former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s lawyer, Natia Tamazashvili, said after leaving the penitentiary facility.

She visited the former prime minister after Public Defender Levan Ioseliani had met with him.

Commenting on the ruling party’s assessment of Irakli Garibashvili’s latest statement, according to which the former prime minister, the United National Movement, and the country’s enemies “speak the same language,” Tamazashvili said that Garibashvili had spent his entire life fighting them.

“What can I tell you about the radical opposition? Irakli has fought the radical opposition throughout his entire conscious life. I cannot make any additional comment,” Tamazashvili said.

When asked whether Garibashvili’s security was being adequately protected, the lawyer did not give a specific answer.

“I cannot tell you anything about this issue at this stage. So far, I have heard nothing to the contrary. I certainly cannot start talking about fears at this stage. Irakli said what he wanted to say in his statements, and I think it is very clear and straightforward. He has no new messages at this stage. I am sure that if he has anything further to say, he will express his position, and I think he will also have a dignified response regarding the ongoing developments,” Tamazashvili said.

Asked how Garibashvili plans to continue the fight he announced, Tamazashvili responded that the former prime minister meant “defending himself and his family.”

Asked whether Garibashvili had any information concerning the case of Tornike Rijvadze or the former head of Gldani Prison No. 8, the lawyer responded:

“We did not discuss these issues, and I certainly cannot comment,” Tamazashvili said.
