The European Union is deeply concerned by the politically motivated use of the judicial system against civil society organizations and the adoption of repressive measures in Georgia. This was stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michel Cervone d'Urso, at a session of the UN Human Rights Council.

According to him, the European Union reiterates Georgia's commitment to protect fundamental freedoms and calls for the repeal or substantial revision of recently adopted legislation that undermines international human rights standards.

"The European Union is deeply concerned by the politically motivated use of the judicial system against civil society organizations and the adoption of repressive measures targeting opposition figures, human rights defenders, and independent media. The European Union strongly condemns unlawful detentions and mounting repressions, including the imprisonment of opposition leaders, independent journalists, media workers, and civil society individuals. The European Union emphasizes the need for Georgia to address these issues, bring its policies into compliance with international standards, and engage in constructive dialogue in order to restore trust in its democratic institutions," stated the EU representative.
