“There are no ‘prisoners of conscience.’ There are prisoners who were involved in violence and, despite the fact that their crimes are quite serious in nature, we are ready to pardon each of them if they show remorse and acknowledge their wrongdoing. This is the clear position we have expressed, and it remains in force,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists while discussing the release of people detained during the protests.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, individuals will be released from prison if they repent for their crimes.

“I will repeat our message: if anyone repents and acknowledges their own wrongdoing, appropriate measures will be taken in their case. Specifically, the individuals concerned will leave prison, regardless of how serious the crime they committed at the time may have been. I am referring to the violence they used during the protests.

This position remains in force. We are taking the relevant measures when specific individuals submit applications to the appropriate authorities. Our position remains unchanged.

When these radicals and foreign agents are unhappy about people being released and leaving prison, this in itself shows what their real objective is. Their only objective is radicalization and further escalation of polarization. We have a different agenda,” Kobakhidze said.
