EU Office: We are no longer funding the Georgian authorities, but we continue to support the population – the European Union is allocating funding of 38 million euros for new projects

Due to the rollback of democratic processes in Georgia, the European Union is no longer funding the Georgian authorities, but we continue to support the population of Georgia – in 2026, the European Union will allocate funding of 38 million euros for the implementation of new projects, thereby continuing to bring about real, positive changes for families and communities throughout Georgia, – this statement is being disseminated by the European Union Representation in Georgia on social media.

According to information from the European Union Representation, the directions of the projects that they will continue to fund include the creation of economic opportunities in small towns and settlements; socio-economic development in villages and regions, with the involvement of women in these processes; the fight against violence against women and girls, and others.

"The EU has been supporting the people of Georgia for more than 30 years. Since 1992, the EU has invested more than €2 billion in progress across Georgia: transforming agriculture, supporting people in remote areas start their own businesses, improving air quality, and coordinating the upgrade of the East-West highway, among many other areas. Due to Georgia’s democratic backsliding, the EU no longer provides funding to Georgian authorities. But we continue to deliver assistance to the people of Georgia. We reaffirm that commitment. In 2026, we are allocating €38 million in new projects that will continue to make a real difference in the lives of families and communities across Georgia: 🔵Economic opportunities in small cities and towns 🔵Skills for a changing labour market 🔵Socio-economic development in rural areas, especially driven by women 🔵Better access to markets and better food quality 🔵Actions to combat violence towards women and girls 🔵Safe and orderly migration 🔵 Climate adaptation and disaster preparedness 🔵 Continued support for communities in Abkhazia", the statement said.
