Penitentiary Service "categorically denies" that Davit Peikrishvili was beaten

The Special Penitentiary Service categorically rejects reports that prisoner Davit Peikrishvili was beaten.

As the Special Penitentiary Service explained to InterPressNews, no physical altercation involving the prisoner took place.

Regarding the request by Peikrishvili’s mother to see her son, the Penitentiary Service stated that Davit Peikrishvili’s visitation rights within the correctional facility are restricted due to the interests of the ongoing investigation.

The agency noted that he did not have the right to telephone communication either; however, given the circumstances, the Penitentiary Service interceded with the Prosecutor's Office to allow Davit Peikrishvili to call his parent.

For context, reports emerged a few days ago alleging that Davit Peikrishvili had been beaten while in custody. As Nino Abramishvili, Davit Peikrishvili’s mother, noted in a conversation with InterPressNews, she spoke with her son by phone; during the call, Davit Peikrishvili reassured her, stating that he was doing well. According to Abramishvili, his lawyer also confirms that his client is in good condition and denies reports that he was beaten. Nevertheless, Nino Abramishvili is demanding to see her son—explaining that she wants to verify with her own eyes that Davit Peikrishvili is indeed doing well. With this request in mind, the mother of the imprisoned Peikrishvili brothers arrived near the Gldani prison today.
