Rehabilitation works on Sioni Cathedral will be completed by the end of this year. This was stated to Interpressnews by Tbilisi City Hall. According to them, the total cost of the project amounts to 1,221,222 GEL.

“The Tbilisi Development Fund began the implementation of the restoration-rehabilitation project of the most important immovable monument of cultural heritage — Sioni Cathedral and its bell tower — at the end of May. The project provides for the replacement and restoration of the damaged roof covering of the cathedral and bell tower located at Sioni No. 4 in Tbilisi. The works became necessary for preventive purposes, in order to prevent damage to the walls by precipitation and to avoid any threat to the unique frescoes preserved in the cathedral.

Based on an electronic tender, a contract for the implementation of the works was signed with LLC ‘Remonti 2’. The total cost of the project amounts to 1,221,222 GEL.

The mentioned project is in an active phase and its completion is planned for the end of the current year,” City Hall stated.
