“The intention to delay the proceedings as much as possible is apparent even to the naked eye. Specifically, they are seeking to prolong the stage involving the submission of various types of motions,” Georgian Dream MP Tornike Cheishvili said after a hearing at the Constitutional Court.
The court is considering a lawsuit filed by his party seeking to ban five opposition political groups.
Cheishvili said the motions submitted by the opposition parties were “virtually identical.”
“If we look closely, these motions are virtually identical, and the representatives of the so-called parties are trying to express ideas with exactly the same substance using different terminology and different words, and then submit corresponding motions. They received no objections whatsoever during the proceedings.
“It is clear that they are concerned about the central part of the case proceedings and the prospect of reaching the question-and-answer stage, when explanations will be requested. At that point, the entire range of unconstitutional actions identified in our lawsuit will become even more apparent,” Cheishvili said.
