Outgoing President concerned over sharp fall in quality of democracy in second round runoff

Outgoing President Giorgi Margvelashvili assessed the second round of the presidential elections held on November 28 in Georgia. Margvelashvili said he was concerned over the “sharp fall in the quality of democracy”.

“Based on the monitoring of yesterday’s elections and the analysis of the assessments of observer organizations, I would like to express my concern over the sharp fall in the quality of democracy in the second round and I would like to say unambiguously that the elections of such standards must not be held anymore in Georgia, "Margvelashvili said.

The outgoing President thanked the population of Georgia for their high turnout in the elections. He also thanked the observation missions for their "high professionalism" and the media for covering “intensive and high-level coverage” of the elections.
