Prosecution to appeal against Davit Kirkitadze’s non-guilty verdict

The court’s decision was unexpected, - prosecutor Giorgi Mikeladze told journalists when commenting on Davit Kirkitadze's case.

According to him, they will appeal against the verdict. He alleges that the evidence of the case proves Kirkitadze's guilt.

"Unfortunately, the court delivered a non-guilty verdict against Davit Kirkitadze. The prosecution had adduced such strong and obvious evidence against him that we were surprised by the judge’s decision today. After we receive the verdict, the prosecution will appeal against it”, Mikeladze said.

Davit Kirkitadze, who was accused of abuse of power when he was a governor, has been acquitted.

However, Davit Kirkitadze remains in pre-trial detention as he is charged in other criminal case as well. In particular, on December 19, Kirkitadze was charged with the assaulting a police officer and damaging property during a demonstration in the village of Velistsikhe on December 16.
