Court orders opposition member to remain in custody

The Gurjaani District Court remanded Davit Kirkitadze, member of the opposition ‘United National Movement” party, in custody on Tuesday.

Davit Kikritadze left the court room in protest.

Prosecutors demanded pre-trail detention amid “fears of committing a new crime by Davit Kirkitadze.”

According to the prosecutor, Kirkitadze unconditionally violates the presumption of the protection of the law, and therefore, they do not consider it appropriate to use less severe preventive measure against Davit Kirkitadze.

Kirkitadze’s defence offered GEL 5000 bail as an alternative to imprisonment for Davit Kikritadze.
