Acting President of Kazakhstan wants to rename capital after Nursultan Nazarbayev

Acting President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zomart Tokayev, initiates to rename the capital city of the country to honor the country’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"I think it is necessary to perpetuate the name of our first president, and our capital should be named after him," Kassym-Zomart Tokayev said.

Kassym-Zomart Tokayev has been sworn in as Kazakhstan’s acting president, ending the nearly 30-year rule of Nursultan Nazarbaev, whom resigned yesterday.

Tokayev, speaker of the upper house of parliament, will assume the presidency until 2020, before the elections of a new President is held in the country.
