MIA says police will “protect public order” in Akhmeta Municipality

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia deployed a relevant number of police officers in connection with resumption of construction of a micro hydropower plant on Alazani River after the request from the Ministry of Economy, - the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia told InterPressNews.

According to the Ministry, they will ensure the protection of public order in order to prevent possible confrontation or provocations in Akhmeta municipality.

Locals of village Birkinia in Pankisi Gorge clashed with police as part of a day of protests against the construction of the Hydro Power Plant Khadori 3.

Several persons were injured after the law enforcers used tear gas and rubber bullets.
