Police detain several persons, including Turkish, Russian citizens, for drug crime

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has prevented several facts of selling particularly large amount of drugs”, Vladimer Bortsvadze, Deputy Interior Minister, said at a briefing on Tuesday.

“Police have detained a citizen of the Russian Federation in Tbilisi for illegal purchase, storage and selling of particularly large amount of drugs on preliminary agreement with a group. The crime envisages from 5 to 14 years in prison.

As a result of the personal search and the search conducted in the hotel room of the detainee, police have seized 15 packages of 122,96 gr of new psychoactive substance,” Vladimer Bortsvadze said.

According to him, the investigation is underway under sub-paragraph “b”, paragraph III, Article 260, sub-paragraph “b”, paragraph V, Article 19-260 and Article 262(I) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving illegal purchase, storage, selling on preliminary agreement with a group and illegal import of a new psychoactive substance into Georgia.

The Deputy Interior Minister said that police have detained another person at Tbilisi International Airport on the same charge.

“The detainee arrived from the Republic of Turkey and attempted to import particularly large amount of drugs – 265 pills of “Subotex” into Georgia. The crime envisages up to 20 years in prison or a life imprisonment.

“The investigation is underway into the facts of illegal purchase, storage and illegal import of particularly large amount of drugs into Georgia and illegal purchase and selling of psychotropic substances,” Vladimer Bortsvadze said.

According to him, police detained one person and seized particularly large amount of drugs - 392 pills of “Subotex” when he was moving through Tbilisi by-pass.

“The investigation is underway under sub-paragraph “a”, paragraph VI, Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The crime envisages from 8 to 20 years in prison or a life imprisonment,” Vladimer Bortsvadze said.

According to the Deputy Interior Minister, the officers of the Internal Affairs Ministry seized a total of 13.5 kg heroine, 1 800 pills of subotex and suboxin, more than 2500 pills of ecstasy, 6, 5 kg of a new psychoactive substance, 1 kg and 400 gr of cocaine and 400 gr of psychotropic drugs and detained 60 drug dealers from January 1 to May 13 of 2019.
