Azeri civil activists rally on territory of Davit Gareji monastery complex

The Azeri civil activists held a demonstration on the territory of Davit Gareji monastery complex.

The demonstrators argue that the disputed territory of Davit Gareji Monastery Complex is the territory of Azerbaijan. Special groups have been created in social networks, calling on the citizens of Azerbaijan to join the demonstration on May 28 in connection with the Day of Independence of Azerbaijan.

Citizens of Georgia have several times rallied on the territory of Davit Gareji Monastery Complex and expressed their hope that the issue of border demarcation will be solved painlessly between the two countries.

The monastery complex, construction of which started in 6th century, is located in Gareji semi-desert about 70 kilometers southeast of Tbilisi and is one of Georgia’s important cultural and religious heritage sites and home of Georgian Orthodox monks.
