Serviceman found dead in Tbilisi

Contractor serviceman of the Georgia National Guard Paata Chkhaidze was found dead in his dwelling flat, the Ministry of Defence of Georgia said on Thursday.

According to the Ministry, a firearm was seized from the house of the deceased soldier.

“Contractor serviceman of the Georgia National Guard Paata Chkhaidze (DoB 11.09.1985) was found dead in his dwelling flat on May 15. A firearm (hunting rifle) was discovered at the scene. The Ministry of Defense of Georgia expresses its deepest sorrow over the incident and offers its condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased,” reads the statement released on May 16 by the Defence Ministry.

According to the Ministry, an investigation has been launched under paragraph I, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving incitement to suicide.
