Tbilisi Pride organizer says there are risks and participants have to decide whether they are ready to take part in it

We would like to tell each person, who intends to participate in the march, that there are some risks and they have to decide themselves whether they are ready to take part in the event or not, Nino Bolkvadze, one of the organizers of Tbilisi Pride, told reporters on Wednesday.

According to her, the society must find the forms of co-existence and cooperation that will be useful and safe for each citizen. Nino Bolkvadze noted that the organizers of the march “took into consideration all the possible security measures.”

“Tens of people try attempts to ensure safety during the events. Senior officials as well as law enforcers are engaged in the process and we hope their work will be effective. There are risks and the state is responsible for these risks. We would like to tell each person, who intends to participate in the march, that there are some risks and they have to decide themselves whether they are ready to take part in the event or not,” Nino Bolkvadze said.

“Tbilisi Pride” organizers were told by the Interior Ministry officials on June 17 to cancel the events citing personal safety and general security concerns. “Tbilisi Pride” released a statement on June 18, saying that the first-ever Pride Parade in the history of Georgia will take place. The statement reads that their supporters, family members, friends, representatives of international organizations and foreign diplomats, EU citizens and guests from neighboring countries will join the event in solidarity.
