Russian Rugby team refuses to arrive in Georgia

A rugby match between Georgian and Russian teams, scheduled for August 27, will not take place after the Russian rugby players refused to arrive in Georgia, Tass agency has reported.

According to the agency, the match has been canceled due to the tense political situation in Georgia that is related to the protests following a Russian delegation’s visit to the country.

"The Russian Rugby Federation have watched with deep concern the recent developments in Georgia, in particular in Tbilisi. Sadly, the rhetoric of the radical people living in the territory of Georgia leads to cases of violation of public order and may threaten the lives and health of those people who are in this country. Because of the circumstances involved, we have to inform you that the Russian Rugby Federation considers it impossible to hold a match between Georgia and Russia, which was planned in Tbilisi on August 27, 2019, "the statement reads.

According to the same statement, the cancellation of the match will not reflect the relationship between the national rugby federations of the two countries.
