I emphasize that any international match will be safely held in Georgia, - Gocha Svanidze, President of the Georgian Rugby Union, told InterPressNews when commenting on the decision of the Russian rugby squad to arrive in Georgia.
He refrained from making political assessment of the decision of the Russian rugby team and explained that the Georgian national team had good relations with them.
“I emphasize that any international match will be safely held in Georgia, - Gocha Svanidze. I do not want to analyze the action of Russians. We respect each other, we have good relations. This decision is their problem, but it created problems for us too, as we have to look for a new rival now," Gocha Svanidze told InterPressNews.
A rugby match between Georgian and Russian teams, scheduled for August 27, will not take place after the Russian rugby players refused to arrive in Georgia, the Tass agency reported. According to the agency, the match was canceled due to the tense political situation in Georgia that is related to the protests following the Russian delegation’s visit to the country.
