Dmitry Medoev responded to a statement by the US State Department calling on the Russian foreign ministry to "use all available means to prevent the escalation of the situation near the administrative dividing line."

“Finally, the real orderers of this provocation are worried. Apart from the domestic political goals, Georgia's provocation had another, presumably, a major goal. The area in question has long been known for producing talc and marble granules. In general, the valley is rich with marble, green marble, barite and nephrite, as well as with industrial clay deposits and valuable tree species. I suspect that the Georgian government has found an investor whom it has handed over these lands and given the guarantee of doing a safe business,” Medoev said.

"How can you inspire to a peace process with your words and actually, bring the situation to war due to someone’s venal interests,” Medoev added.
