Technical meeting held in Ergneti

We insisted any illegal activities to be ceased on the territory controlled by the central government of Georgia, - Deputy Head of Information-analytical Department of the State Security Service of Georgia, Irakli Antadze told reporters after a technical meeting that has been held in village Ergneti of Gori municipality today.

He said the positions are still diametrically different.

“I would like to point out that the positions are still diametrically different. We emphasized that the standard police checkpoint will continue to operate in ordinary manner and its purpose will be to provide a safe environment on the ground. At the same time, of course, we categorically demanded the cessation of any illegal activity on the territory controlled by the central government. Diametrically different opinions have been voiced over this issue, and therefore no consensus has been reached. As for the prospects for the continuation of the dialogue, consensus has been reached on this particular issue and all participants of the meeting emphasized the need to continue the dialogue in order to bring the positions closer.

Of course, we raised the issue of Akhalgori at the meeting, and unfortunately, they absolutely groundlessly linked the closure of [“border”] crossings to the recent processes nearby Chorchana village. We would like to emphasize that it is a clearly humanitarian aspect, which damages population living on the both sides of the occupation line, worsens their everyday lives and does not contribute to improvement the stability and security on the ground. Unfortunately, their position on this point is not constructive either, and the closure of the crossings was directly linked to the ongoing processes in Chorchana, which is unacceptable, "Antadze said.

Security officials from Tbilisi, occupied Tskhinvali and Russian Federation held the fourth technical meeting in village Ergneti, near the occupation line.
