Powerful typhoon is expected to hit Japan

A powerful typhoon is expected to hit Tokyo and other areas of eastern Japan this weekend, the weather agency warned Friday, according to Japanese media.

Reportedly, train operators announced plans to suspend many services in the metropolitan area.

Typhoon Hagibis is expected to approach the region from Friday evening and make landfall Saturday, before passing east of Hokkaido in northern Japan on Sunday afternoon, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Two Rugby World Cup matches that were to be played Saturday have already been canceled.
