The officers of the Anti-corruption Agency of the State Security Service, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, detained a member of Kareli Municipality Assembly, Giorgi G. and a representative of Mayor of Kareli in Dirbi administrative unit Soslan K. on the charges of influence peddling and forgery by official.

As State Security Service said on Wednesday evening, an investigation has established that the member of Kareli municipality Assembly promised a citizen for exchange of GEL 2000 that he would make representative of mayor of Kareli in Dirbi administrative unit include in a goods purchase certificate forged data on alleged sale of 20 tones of agricultural product grown by a resident of village Dirbi on his land plot to the mentioned citizen.

On October 23, 2019, the member of Kareli municipality Assembly gave the mentioned certificate to the citizen and took requested amount of money – GEL 2000, when he was detained by the officers of Anti-corruption Agency of the State Security Service.

The investigation is in progress on the facts of influence peddling and forgery by official, involved in Article 339 prima, paragraph 2 and article 341 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The detainees face from 3 to 5 years of imprisonment. The investigation is carried out by Anti-corruption Agency of the State Security Service.
