Agriculture Minister – Bread prices must not rise

Bread’s prices must not rise, since there are no preconditions for rising the prices, Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili said.

As the Minister noted at a briefing on Tuesday, another meeting was held today with the representatives of the bread industry, where they once again agreed that bread price must not rise if there are no preconditions for it.

“I would like to underline that bread’s prices must not rise, it’s very important. Although we have seen slight fluctuations in wheat prices and some increase in the same Black Sea basin countries, this is temporary event and this temporary event is insured by the state within its compensation program. We are offering the importers and the flour producers compensation to keep the price of flour as of March 10, in order to maintain the price of flour for the bread industry. We have had a meeting with the bread industry representatives today to agree that bread price must not rise if there are no preconditions for it,” the Minister said.
